Risk Engineering Imperatives For Solid Mineral Development in Nigeria was the title of the paper presented by Engr. Jacob Adeosun at the just concluded 46th Annual General Meeting and International Conference and Exhibition of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineer (Abuja 2016).

Abstract of the Paper
This is an overview of the concepts and application of Risk Engineering principles for sustainable success in solid mineral development. Flowing from the definition of key terms (Risk, Risk Management, Risk Engineering and Risk Management Process), the rationale for this advocacy was hinged on failure references in solid mineral projects and the need to consistently identify and analyze the dynamic risk exposures in all phases of solid mineral projects life cycle in order to proactively implement well thought-out innovative risk solutions.

An outline of the general risk profile of solid mineral projects focused on main general features, risk exposures, risk identification techniques, basic risk analysis matrix and project risk life cycle chart was provided. The caveat to the sidelining of risk engineering as advocated in this paper is that any project that is not "risk-based planned" and "intrinsically risk-managed" all the time, is doomed to fail at any point of the life-cycle.
